Critical Infrastructure

HVAC and Mechanical Infrastructure Systems

Air conditioning is the discipline that directly determines both availability and energy cost in data centre and server room projects. ONGSEC takes on the entire mechanical infrastructure — from heat load calculation to equipment …

Heat Load Calculation and Airflow Analysis

  • Separate calculation of IT equipment heat load, lighting, occupancy and building envelope gains
  • Rack-based density map and hot spot risk analysis
  • CFD (computational fluid dynamics) simulation to model airflow and temperature distribution
  • Producing a real-condition map of existing rooms via thermal imaging and sensor measurement
  • Delta-T analysis and identification of bypass/recirculation losses
  • Verifying temperature behaviour under redundancy scenarios (one unit out of service)
02

Precision Cooling Systems

Data centre cooling must not be confused with comfort cooling: it requires a high sensible heat ratio, continuous operation and a narrow temperature–humidity band. In our installations, room-based precision cooling solutions are selected according to the project.

  • Downflow (raised floor supply) and upflow layout options
  • Direct expansion (DX) air-cooled and water-cooled units
  • Chilled water CRAH units with valve and actuator automation
  • EC fan technology, variable speed control and pressure/temperature-based capacity modulation
  • Rotation between unit groups, standby unit activation and group control
  • N+1 / 2N unit redundancy and concurrent maintainability scenarios
03

Close-Coupled and High-Density Cooling

  • InRow cooling units for targeted cooling of high-density rack rows
  • Rear-door heat exchanger applications
  • Closed-loop cabinet solutions and high-density islands
  • Liquid cooling: direct-to-chip cold plates and coolant distribution units (CDU)
  • Assessment of immersion cooling infrastructure and derivation of facility requirements
  • Engineering 30–100 kW+ density scenarios for AI and high-performance computing (HPC) racks
  • Hybrid solutions: managing air and liquid cooling together in the same hall
04

Chillers and Distribution Pipework

  • Chiller selection: air-cooled, water-cooled and free-cooling models
  • Dry cooler, cooling tower and adiabatic pre-cooling alternatives
  • Primary/secondary pump groups, variable flow system design and redundant pump architecture
  • Pipework engineering, diameter calculation, expansion, insulation and vibration management
  • Glycol ratio, freeze protection, water treatment and corrosion control
  • Buffer tanks to provide cooling autonomy until the generator picks up load
  • Redundant ring main pipework and isolation valve strategy for concurrent maintainability
05

Free Cooling and Energy Efficiency

  • Air-side and water-side free cooling feasibility and annual savings modelling
  • Adiabatic / evaporative cooling applications and water consumption assessment
  • Setting economiser mode transition thresholds from local climate data
  • Setpoint optimisation against ASHRAE recommended and allowable operating envelopes
  • Increasing chiller efficiency by raising chilled water temperature
  • PUE measurement, monitoring and improvement roadmap
  • Assessment of heat recovery scenarios contributing to office or workshop heating
06

Air Management and Containment

  • Design, fabrication and installation of hot or cold aisle containment systems
  • Ceiling panels and automatically opening containment elements compatible with the fire scenario
  • Preventing air leakage with blanking panels, side panels and floor brush grommets
  • Perforated tile placement and flow optimisation in raised floors
  • Room pressure balance, leakage rate and management of door and transit effects
  • Reducing the impact of cable density on airflow, under-floor tidying
07

Humidity Control and Air Quality

  • Humidification (steam / ultrasonic) and dehumidification systems, central humidity control strategy
  • Balancing electrostatic discharge (ESD) and condensation risks
  • Determining filter classes (G4 / F7 / H13) and filter replacement plan
  • Corrosive gas monitoring (ISA 71.04 classification) and chemical filtration where required
  • Control of dust, particulates and outdoor air quality at the data centre intake
08

Building Mechanical and Ventilation Systems

  • VRF/VRV, split and fan coil systems for administrative area conditioning
  • Air handling unit (AHU) selection, fresh air and heat recovery units

  • Fire-scenario-linked dampers, pressurisation and smoke extraction systems
  • Kitchen/workshop exhaust and industrial ventilation applications
09

Monitoring, Automation, Maintenance and Optimisation

  • BMS/DCIM integration of mechanical systems (Modbus, BACnet, SNMP)
  • Programming setpoints, alarm thresholds and automatic standby activation scenarios
  • Continuous monitoring and reporting of energy and cooling performance indicators
  • Periodic maintenance programme: filters, belts, condensate drains, refrigerant charge, leak testing
  • Compressor and fan vibration analysis, predictive maintenance via thermal imaging
